Overview of the Project

The Integrated Health project is a Franco-Indian initiative jointly coordinated by Sorbonne University (France) and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (India). It addresses the strategic theme of “Integrated Health” by fostering academic, scientific, and technological collaboration at the Master’s and PhD levels, while also engaging young researchers, faculty, and industrial partners.

The overarching ambition is to build a strong community of researchers and students committed to tackling societal and medical challenges through an inclusive partnership that spans life sciences, biomedical engineering, biotechnologies, and links with fields such as mathematics, computer science, physics, chemistry, and the social sciences.

Key Activities

  1. Academic Programs and Mobility

    • Development of Master’s, MTech, and PhD exchanges between France and India, primarily through internships, semester credit validation, and joint degree pathways.

    • Creation of double-degree programs and international MSc specializations in areas such as molecular and cellular biology, integrative physiology, cognitive sciences, biomedical engineering, and biotechnology.

    • PhD collaborations supported by dedicated fellowships, including in oncology, neuroscience, wastewater epidemiology, and synthetic biology.

  2. Research Collaboration

    • More than 40 research teams from both institutions are already engaged.

    • Identified synergies cover neuroscience, cancer biology, infectious diseases, genetic disorders, metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, as well as computational biology, imaging, biomedical devices, and synthetic biology.

    • Collaborative projects will be supported by Erasmus+ (KA171) and CEFIPRA/DST-ANR programs, ensuring financial sustainability.

  3. Workshops and Summer Schools

    • Annual joint workshops dedicated to education and research in health sciences, hosted alternately in Paris and Delhi.

    • Summer Schools on Biology, Neurosciences or Humanities in Health, combining academic input, site visits, intercultural events, and mentorship from industrial partners.

  4. Governance and Structure

    • Managed by a Joint Steering Committee, co-chaired by Sorbonne Université and IIT Delhi, with separate education and research committees.

    • Annual conferences in Paris or Delhi bring together working groups, coordinators, and stakeholders to assess progress and plan future steps.

Outcomes

  • More than 20 student mobilities within the first two years.

  • Establishment of 10 or more scientific collaborations leading to joint publications and co-supervised doctoral projects.

  • Launch of double-degree MSc and PhD programs between France and India.

  • Expansion of the campus beyond health into fields such as AI, climate change, quantum technologies, and civil engineering.
